Case Study: The Mature Client Seeking Dark Brows

Our client is a 70-year-old woman with very fair skin. Her desire for dark, almost black eyebrows is understandable, as bold brows can frame the face and enhance youthful features. However, given her skin type and age, a different approach was recommended.

The Challenges of Fair Skin

Fair skin tends to have a thinner epidermis, which can affect pigment retention. Additionally, mature skin often experiences changes in texture and elasticity, which can impact the healing process and the final appearance of permanent makeup.

The Risks of Dark Pigment

Using a dark, almost black pigment on fair skin can create a harsh and unnatural appearance. The color might appear overly dark and dense, aging the client rather than rejuvenating her features.

The Benefits of a Lighter Shade

Recommending a lighter shade, such as dark blonde, offers several advantages:

  • Softer Appearance: A lighter pigment can create a softer, more natural look that complements the client’s fair skin.
  • Aging Gracefully: Lighter brows can help achieve a more youthful and refreshed appearance.
  • Versatility: A lighter base color allows for gradual intensification during touch-up sessions, providing flexibility to achieve the desired level of darkness.

The Option of Pencil

To address the client’s desire for a darker brow, the artist suggested using a pencil to fill in the brows after the initial healing process. This allows for greater control over the intensity and shape, ensuring the client can achieve her desired look without compromising the longevity of the permanent makeup.

Educating the Client

It’s essential to educate the client about the potential risks and benefits of different pigment choices. Explaining how darker pigments can appear grayer or more intense on mature skin can help the client make an informed decision.

By recommending a lighter shade and offering the option of using a pencil, the artist has provided the client with a solution that addresses her desires while considering the realities of her skin type and age.
