Guide to Infection-Free Permanent Makeup Healing

  • Eyebrow Pencils: If you use eyebrow pencils, invest in new ones or thoroughly disinfect your existing ones. A simple wipe-down with 90% or higher isopropyl alcohol will do the trick.
  • Mascara: Toss the Old, Embrace the New: Never, ever use your old mascara after getting eyeliner tattooed. Mascara wands are breeding grounds for bacteria. A fresh tube is a must!
  • Eyeliners: Just like mascara, new eyeliners are crucial. Disinfect any sharpeners you use with alcohol.
  • Eyeshadows: Powder eyeshadows can also harbor bacteria. Lightly spritz them with 90% or higher isopropyl alcohol and allow them to air dry completely. This will kill any surface bacteria.
  • Makeup Brushes: Wash and disinfect your makeup brushes thoroughly. Use a gentle brush cleanser and follow up with a dip in isopropyl alcohol. Allow them to dry completely before use.
  • Lipsticks: Disinfect your lipsticks by wiping them down with isopropyl alcohol. You can also use a disposable lip brush to apply lipstick during the healing process.
  • Lip Glosses: Lip glosses can be particularly problematic due to their liquid consistency, which can trap bacteria. It’s best to avoid using lip glosses altogether during the healing period unless it’s a brand new gloss that you’ve just purchased.
