If you’ve been following my journey for a while, you’ve noticed things look a little different around here. The sign on the door has changed, the logo is fresh, and the vibe is… well, it’s finally me.
After eight years, I am officially retiring Microblading San Antonio and introducing you to Soy Ambar Studio.
I know what you’re thinking: “Ambar, why change a name that is literally the most searched term in the city?” Pull up a chair, grab a coffee (or something stronger), and let me give you the tea. It’s been a wild ride of SEO fails, legal headaches, and a literal business stalker.
The SEO Trap: When Strategy Backfires
Eight years ago, I thought I was a genius. I named my business Microblading San Antonio because I wanted to own the Google search results. If you typed it in, I should have been #1, right?
Did it work? NO!
Google’s algorithm is a fickle beast. Despite my name being the exact search term, the “all-knowing” search engine seemed to favor every other business over mine. I was playing the game, but the house was winning. Lesson learned: a name built solely for a search bar has no soul, and apparently, no ranking power either.
The Era of the Copycats
Once I started building a reputation, the “tributes” began. And by tributes, I mean people straight-up stealing my identity.
One artist used my business name in her Instagram bio for three years. Three. Years. You’d think I could just call a lawyer and shut it down, right? Hahaha! Not quite.
I tried to copyright the name. It wasn’t about the money; it was about protecting my hard work. But here’s a fun legal fact: You cannot copyright the name of a city. Since “San Antonio” is public domain, my business name was essentially up for grabs for anyone brave (or unoriginal) enough to take it. I was stuck in a branding limbo where I couldn’t protect the house I built.
The “Stalker” and the Health Department
Then, things got weird. A “stalker” artist moved in from out of town. Her first move? Following every single one of my followers. Her second move? Moving into the exact beauty salon suite I had just vacated.
She didn’t stop there. She actually used my business name to file her Department of Health license at that location. The only reason I found out was because the inspector called me, confused as to why I wasn’t there for the inspection. I had to explain that I’d moved and had zero affiliation with the person standing in my old suite.
The Final Straw (and the accidental 5-star review)
The confusion reached a fever pitch when she changed her Google name to “Microblading San Antonio” as well. Suddenly, her clients were driving to my new location.
I’ll never forget being in the middle of a procedure with a client when someone started banging on my door, frantic because they thought they were late for their appointment with her. It was chaotic. It was unprofessional. And it wasn’t even my fault.
The absolute “done with this” moment? One of her clients gave me a 5-star review. While a 5-star review is usually a win, it was the final proof that the name was more of a liability than an asset. I was inheriting someone else’s life, drama, and clients just because of a generic name.
Why “Soy Ambar Studio”?
Through all the stress, I realized something important: I, Ambar, am Microblading San Antonio. The name didn’t make the brows; I did. My hands, my color theory, and my dedication to my clients are what built this business. You can’t walk around telling people your name is Ambar if it’s not, and you certainly can’t replicate the heart I put into my work.
“Soy Ambar” means “I am Ambar.” It’s personal. It’s authentic. And most importantly, it’s something nobody can take from me. I’m moving away from being a search term and moving toward being a brand.
What This Means for You
Don’t worry, the high-quality work, the “active lifestyle” brow solutions, and the obsessive mapping aren’t going anywhere. If anything, they’re getting better. By shedding the “Microblading San Antonio” label, I’ve cleared the air of all the confusion and copycats.
When you book at Soy Ambar Studio, you know exactly who you’re getting. No more “wrong location” drives, no more health department mix-ups just me, you, and the best brows of your life.
I am so incredibly happy with this change and I can’t wait to see what I accomplish now that I’m finally standing behind my own name.
